My English 112X Blog

During my writing process the text book has been a huge help.  It has shown how to write a well developed introduction and conclusions.  It has also shown how to draft a clear thesis statement that is also engaging to the audience.  I really do not learn from reading from a book I learn from example and what I have been taught in class.  I feel that after taking English 111 and 112 I have bettered myself because I now know how to write academically.

I enjoyed reading how someone rewrote my paper.  It was an opportunity to see how someone else can word your thoughts and come up with new words.  It was also interesting to see how the person reorganized my thoughts mixing up sentences and ideas.  To rewrite someone else’s paper it was awkward at first because you truly have to understand that the author is saying so that you can reword it into your own thoughts and words.  Once I started I became more relaxed and was able to get into the activity more.  I leaned that I can use this rewriting process to benefit my writing by rewriting my own works to come up with my best writing possible.  Cheating is bad because you are taking, stealing actually, someone else’s work that is not your own.

Reality television is becoming increasing popular.  Reality television gossip can be heard and seen everywhere.  Also the stars that the shows are producing are becoming popular as well.  Because the of huge increase Americans are staring to speculate ideas to why the shows are becoming so popular.  It is clear that their are many possible causes to the increased in popularity of the shows including the fact that Americans like to watch people compete and and have confrontation and Americans also like to watch stars from the past come back into the spot light.  Although those possible causes are very true the main cause for the increased popularity of reality television is because reality television allows Americans to be involved and have a say in who wins the competition.

I have learned many new techniques from writing a source analysis.  I have never written one before so it was very difficult to begin writing because it is very different from a regular essay that i have written in the past.  I learned that I can explore more in depth  my research and by learning more about it I can use it in my paper.  I also learned that as I explore my research my thesis or main points can change and that is ok.  A source analysis is similar to an argumentative essay because they both are trying to prove a point and uses sources to do so along with synthesis.  The two are different because a source analysis does not have a thesis and a Argumentative essay does along with an audience.

1. Yes, I believe that my issue is current and many American’s will be knowledgeable on my topic

2. Popularity of reality television shows.  It can be heard in many public places people talking or discussing the latest episode of their favorite reality show also seen

3. People may feel that reality television shows are not really reality stating they are scripted and fake.  They may also feel that reality television is taking jobs away from television show writers.

4. I am speculating the popularity of reality television shows.  I have some speculations  why reality television has become so popular but i do not have my main cause of why it has become so popular. (Americans like to watch people fight and have confrontation, Americans like to see Superstars from the past to come back into the lime light, Americans like to watch people famous or not and how they live their life because it is different from their own, Americans also like to have feel as if they have a say on who wins the competition becuase  they can vote for their favorite)

Possible thesis: Although many Americans have argued that reality television is so popular because x and y, they missed the important fact that Americans like to watch people famous or not and how they live their life because it is different from their own.

My Steps:  I love reality television! I love everything from Jon and Kate Plus 8 to Rock of Love to Keeping up the Kardashians.   It seems that every show on television is a reality TV show.  Why are they so popular and why do Americans love them? Some people might say that reality television is not popular with older people only young adults and teens.  I would like to find out why reality television is so popular and why so many Americans love to watch reality TV.  Most televisions shows that have the highest ratings are reality and have a voting system that asks Americans their opinion such as American Idol or Dancing with the Stars.  These television shows have become so popular that they are creating an billion dollar empire with traveling tours and millions of crazy fans.

In essay 2 I hope to overcome the challenges faced with synthesis.  I feel that in my rough draft of essay 2 my quotes for my synthesis to agree were far stretched and unbelievable.  I hope to improve and make essay two the best essay because it is the most challenging essay and will only prove my strength or weakness as a writer..hopefully strength.  I really have no idea how essay 1 will build on essay 2 them seem completely different and unrelated.

I do not think that I am really using to my advantage the writing processes that are given in the book.  I learn more by listening in class and by pay attention to examples given in class and I feel that most of the processes I use in my writing come from what I have learned in class.  I like the class and feel that I learn a lot so there is really no need to confuse myself with trying to understand the processes given in the book.  With my writing process I usually begin by brainstorming ideas then  create and outline and a thesis statement.  After I begin drafting and revising until I believe it is perfect.

In my “story” I am going to show how I was able to convince my parents to allow me to attend senior week in Myrtle Beach the week after I graduated.  First I had to do some research on the area and find a location were me and my friends could stay for the week.  Then once I found a nice location in downtown Myrtle I checked out the price and the availability.  Once I found that it was in my price range I was able to start saving money and present the idea to my parents.  When beginning to present the idea to them first I told them that most of my friends we going and their parents we okay with the idea.  Then I showed them how I was responsible and able to work to afford the money to go.  Next once I had to money raised I took the responsibilty upon myself to make the reservations and the down payment on the room.  My parents were proud of y grade from my senior year and they knew I was responsible so they told me I could attend. I left the address of the hotel I would be staying at along with the number of the hotel and the cell phone numbers of all the friends I was staying with.  They felt that they could trust me so I was able to attend.

In chapter 16 in From Inquiry to Academic Writingthere are many topics they are related through several articles in text.  The chapter seems to focus on technology and popular icons in today’s society.  The chapter also shines light on how technology can be used as a learning tool but can also be harmful to us as well.  The chapter shows how technology can be a socialization tool eliminating face to face communication between people on a day to day basis.  I think that technology is very important to our American society because it is a great tool that has lead to great discoveries but i also think that it does take away some forms of human interaction and communication.  I know that even in my own life I  have four busy working parents and I know that if I need to get a hold of them to ask a question the best way to reach them is though email.  Technology is important but I think that human communication and interaction is more important.  It puzzles me that the best way to talk to my parents is through email, if you would have told me this two years ago I would have laughed.
